New signs and sounds and a proto-sentence

O's: Yesterday Logan for the first time signed and said "O" for cereal o's. I had taken out the little container of o's out of my purse to fish for my keys and he signed o's while saying "O" in an excited way. The boy really does love his o's.

Go: He also started to wave to J when he said he was going to "go". L then said "Go" and he waved. Very cute. Later though, when Jim got back after being gone all day working, and he came home and was going to leave to go to the store to pick up some stuff for dinner, I really really think that L said "Go No" and then started to cry and reached up for Jim. I think that counts as a sentence! Sad, but still cute! :)

Fun with Sadie

Master Logan in his wee tartan Royal Stewart kilt for a wedding reception of P's daughter, H.

Here's one of L making the sign for "light" - something that we talk a lot about, though not as much as dogs.

Here's a closeup of poor troublesome Sadie, stuck her head into a mound of something and had an allergic reaction to whatever bit here. This is after about an hour and 4 antihistimines - so it has actually improved in this shot from when it initially began.

This is the first video I shot of trying to get L hugging S, mostly he was interested in the camera, still pretty cute!

This one actually has him giving her lots of hugs, and her looking pretty forlorn about it all!

Naked pool party

The other day we had fun out in front of the house in the pool! L of course was really enjoying the water!

Here's a great close up of him playing with his toys!

Here's one of Sadie inviting herself to the party and trying to make off with one of L's toys.

Here's one of that J caught of L being quite surprised by both his slip and by the back of his head getting a bit wet. There is no way we could duplicate this one if we tried.

Exciting times in the World of L...

This is an exciting time in the world of L. It seems like everyday, sometimes every hour, he learns something new. This morning, while we were quietly playing at the very early morning hour that L gets up, he tapped the side of my hip while looking at Sadie, and then when she didn't come to the bed, tapped the side of the mattress. Without even realizing it, this is what J and I both do to get Sadie to come over to us! So he really is watching for our "signs" even if they aren't ASL! Just a few hours later, while I was trying to put him down for his nap, he heard the garbage truck outside, and said "Tuck" and then I said, "That's right, a truck" followed by the sign, which he immediately replicated, and of course I couldn't help but beam in amazement, pride, and wonder--even though we were really trying to go down for a nap--instead we "talked" about the truck, then the fan, and the light, and the dog he heard barking, and then he went to sleep. No need to be too inflexible when such wondrous moments like this occur and my little guy works so hard to communicate with me. He is also getting braver about wondering off by himself and with standing tall without support. Later on in the afternoon, he was playing with a talking alphabet fridge toy, the song goes something like "Every letter makes a sound and "C" says "Kaah" and "SSSS," at which point he mimicked the sound with a long "ssss" sound and smiled and pointed for me to press it again. We'll definitely try to get a video of it for all to see because it is pretty darn cute.

**And tooth #7 has finally broken through, so that is 4 on the top and 3 on the bottom!

"Walking" proud

As promised here are a couple of videos of L cruising along with his walker. This has become his favorite toy and chooses it above all else. He also prefers to cruise if there is someone / something / some dog to hold onto!

Here he is cruising down the hallway. He ends up looking right up at the camera when he gets down to me and is super proud of himself. Then, on cue, he falls! :)

This one is of him going back down the hallway (getting unsurprisingly sidetracked by the electrical outlet and then re-directed back down) and even turning a bit as he comes back to the livingroom!

Well baby

We just came back from L's 9 month well baby (okay so we're a month late, but we were in NY). He is 20 lb. 11 oz. and is "leaning out" a little and is 28 3/4" long. He got a polio vaccine and is currently konked out in his car seat in the parking lot of our townhouse complex while I learned that I can be online in the lot in the car.

Dr. G was impressed by his verbal abilities. She said that most babies his age only say 2-3 words. Here are the words that L reproduces most regularly:

  1. dog-dog
  2. uh-oh
  3. mama
  4. dada
  5. nigh nigh
  6. nur nur (nurse)
  7. all dah (all done)
  8. aight (light)
  9. ahtchoo (ah choo)
  10. adoor (door)
  11. more
  12. bah bah (bye bye)
  13. el-oh (hello)
  14. up-pa (up, as in to be picked up)
  15. am/am-ee (grammy)
He might have a few more than this that either we haven't learned the word yet, or that he's not saying them consistently enough for us to distinguish them from all his other babbling!

He is also very close to walking. In the past couple of days he has stood on his own for a few seconds without any support from Jim or I (or Sadie) or furniture. His favorite toy now is his little walker. I've got video of him going up and down the hall. Will upload soon, I promise!

NY: pt. 7c: Game of catch, anyone?

It took a while for us to finally remember to bring the camera to the pool to get this on video. And we have our neighbor, J, to thank for this video! J had been working on a game of catch with L for a while, but he really seemed to master it in the pool where it could be combined with wet, splashy goodness! The first few he doesn't get largely because I wasn't doing a good job of lobbing the ball into his floaty.

NY: pt. 7b

Here's a great one of Pop Pop and L.

Here are the little ones trying to "help" Grammy make pancakes. I'm sure the "too many cooks" saying does not apply here. Aunt J is right there to make sure that L doesn't "pants" Grammy, something he had been doing to all those wearing soft elasticized pj bottoms as he tried to pull himself up.

Nothing more interesting than the inside of a box.

NY: pt. 7a

Well, we wound up having to extend our stay because Logan got an ear infection and we thought that flying would be too painful, for him, for me, for the rest of the people on the plane, so we stayed on for a couple of days and it definitely paid off. Not only did we get to spend some more time with cousin A and Aunt L and Uncle J and Aunt J, but L definitely was on the mend--though I ended up catching the same thing, except I didn't go to the doctor until we got back and by then I had an ear, sinus, and chest infection, yummy! It is still hanging on!

Here is L playing with Aunt J at Cow Meadow State Park. L was so wiped from playing at the playground and in the sprinklers there that he actually fell asleep in his stroller. Something he hasn't done since he was about 5 months old. We just wheeled him up the back steps and into my parent's bedroom where he slept solid for almost an hour and twenty minutes! Good boy!

Here are the two early birds with one tired, not so much of an early bird, grammy watching, waiting, and calling for doggies.

Here is one of the "menfolk" going out for bagels.

Here Cousin A and L are playing together. Grandpa swooped A in and L would just giggle and laugh!

Here is L really working on a piece of foam from the alphabet mat that he is sitting on. He couldn't be distracted from that piece for almost an hour. Unfortunately the tooth seemed like it was about to break but decided to hold off. Argh for us all!
